Prostate (PSA) Testing
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, second only to skin cancer, effecting approximately 1 in 6 men. No one knows exactly what causes prostate cancer, but early detection and treatment is critical before it has a chance to spread to other parts of the body.
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced in the prostate gland. Elevated PSA levels can indicate prostate cancer or a noncancerous disorder such as prostatitis or an enlarged prostate.
An annual PSA test is recommended for men beginning at age 50 and earlier for those at higher risk for prostate cancer.
