Health Testing Centers Offer Discounted Prostate Blood Testing For Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
September 1, 2010
In recognition of September being Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Health Testing Centers is offering a 20% discount off of the
Prostate Check (a combination of PSA and PAP
blood tests) during the month of September.
Prostate cancer affects approximately 1 in 6 men and is the second leading
cause of cancer death in men, following lung cancer. The cause of
prostate cancer still remains unknown. However, early detection and
treatment have dramatically increased the survival rate.
The Prostate-Specific Antigen
(PSA) blood test is considered the most effective lab test available for the early detection of prostate cancer. The majority of prostate cancer cases detected early are found using the
PSA blood test. Use of the PSA
blood test for early detection of prostate cancer has increased the 5-year survival rate for men from 67% in the 1970s to 92% in 1990s.
Prostate blood tests are recommended for all men starting at age 50. Further, all African-American men and any man with a family history of prostate or breast cancer should start periodic
blood testing at age 40 to 45.
