Cancer Blood Testing Can Help Early Diagnosis (Posted November 30, 2010)

It is true that simple blood tests alone are not enough to detect the presence of cancer cells in your body. When the doctor suspects that you might have cancer the first test that he/she orders is a cancer screening blood test. Just because your doctor has recommended a cancer blood test does not mean that you are having cancer. There are a lot of other conditions which could indicate the presence of cancer cells in the body.

The most common blood test which is performed to understand the presence of cancer is the Complete Blood Count (CBC). With the help of this blood test the doctors are able to understand the presence of various cells in the blood. Even if a person has blood cancer the doctors can understand with the help of this blood test. When there is too less or too much of a particular type of cell the doctors can understand the presence of blood cancer in the body.

To detect the presence of cancer it is important that the doctors try to find out the presence of various proteins in the body. When there is lack of a particular protein in the blood or there is excess of protein in the blood the doctors can determine the presence of cancer cells. Thus with the help of these blood tests the doctors are able gain a sound understanding on whether each of the organs of the body are functioning properly and whether they have been affected by the cancer cells.

Some Cancer Blood Tests are Male Cancer Screening, Female Cancer Screening, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate, Cancer Antigen Tests and AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein) Tumor Marker, etc.
