IgE antibodies may be elevated in individuals experiencing an allergic reaction or symptoms such as itchy eyes, sneezing, difficulty breathing, skin rash, or nausea and diarrhea. In order to identify a specific allergen, this test should not be used. This test is used to detect the total amount of IgE in the blood. To determine an allergy to a specific item, an allergen-specific IgE test must be ordered.
