Testing by CLIA approved lab: Access Medical Labs
The SalivaDirect test is a PCR test that may be used to detect SARS-CoV2. This test is a less invasive collection than a nasal ( nasopharyngeal) collection and is just as accurate with a 100% clinical specificity and 94% clinical sensitivity. This test may be used for individuals that need results for travelling, work or peace of mind. If you are experiencing any current COVID-19 symptoms, we strongly suggest that you contact your primary healthcare provider for testing or find a local testing center for immediate testing. This test kit will need to be shipped to you and may take 4 business days to reach you. Your specimen then needs to be shipped to the laboratory for testing.
Positive results: Positive results may indicate a current infection with SARS-CoV2. We suggest that you follow up with your Primary Healthcare Provider and follow all CDC guidelines. If you have tested positive and are experiencing mild symptoms ( fever/chills, cough, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose) it is recommended that you quarantine/self isolate for at least 10 days. It may be possible to be with other individuals after it has been 10 days since symptom onset, you have been without a fever for at least 24 hours and other symptoms are improving. If your symptoms worsen or you have a medical emergency, please seek emergency medical attention.
If you have tested positive and are not experiencing symptoms, it is still recommended to self quarantine/self isolate for 10 days as you still may be able to pass the infection on to other individuals. If you start experiencing symptoms after testing postiive, please follow the CDC guidelines as mentioned above. After the 10 days if you are not experiencing any symptoms, have been without a fever for at least 24 hours and other symptoms if applicable are improving, you may resume being around other individuals.
Some individuals may need to quarantine/self isolate for longer than the 10 days depending on their immune system and symptoms. Please follow up with your primary healthcare provider for further guidance if necessary.
Negative results: Negative results may indicate no current infection with SARS-CoV2 at the time of the testing. This means that you did not have COVID-19 at the time of the testing. We suggest that you maintain universal precautions ( handwashing, social distancing/quarantining, and wearing a mask) as exposure is still possible after testing. If you start to experience any symptoms it is recommended to follow up with your physician for further recommendations.
This test kit will be shipped out to you via USPS. You will receive a saliva collection device, test requisition form and specimen shipping supplies. Please review all instructions prior to performing this test. Kits should be shipped back via UPS overnight to the laboratory Monday through Thursday only.
