Cancer Antigen CA-125
CA 125 is a protein produced by the fallopian tubes and the lining of the abdominal cavity. CA 125 is generally found in greater concentration in tumor cells than in other cells of the body. Consequently, CA 125 is used as a tumor marker, an indicator of cancer, especially for ovarian cancer. The protein is released by these cancer cells into the blood stream and the concentration of CA 125 protein can be measured by the CA 125 test. The CA 125 test is consistently used by oncologists to monitor patients for recurrence and response to treatment.
