Aluminum is the third most common element and also the most common element in the earth's crust. Elevated Aluminum levels in the blood may occur due to too much aluminum exposure. Aluminum is found in air, water, soil and even food. Individuals with higher risk of exposure and possible poisoning include those who work or live near aluminum mining operations, or who may have a chronic kidney disease. Individuals with chronic kidney disease have a higher risk of poisoning as the kidneys are unable to filter the aluminum out of the body, thus causing the aluminum to build up and then bind to different proteins (albumin) in the blood. Aluminum toxicity symptoms may include:Bone pain, muscle weakness, impaired cognitive function as well as further bone damage such as osteoporosis.
