Acute Hepatitis Package
This panel detects the presence of surface antigens and antibodies to viral hepatitis A, B, and C. Surface antigens are proteins on the surface of the virus. When the body is exposed to certain viruses, it produces antibodies in response to the infection.
This panel detects the IgM antibody for hepatitis A, the first antibody produced after exposure to hepatitis A. A positive IgM result typically indicates there is acute or recent infection.1
The panel also detects surface antigens and core total antibodies for hepatitis B. A positive surface antigen result indicates active infection with hepatitis B virus.2 A positive core antibody result could indicate either previous or ongoing infection.2
This panel also measures the level of hepatitis C antibodies. A high level of hepatitis C antibodies is considered a positive result and typically indicates either existing or previous infection with hepatitis C.3
