Vitamin K1, Serum

This Vitamin K blood test measures the level of Vitamin K in your body.  Vitamin K represents a collection of fat soluble substances including K1, K2, K3, and K4.  K1 is naturally found in leafy green vegetables and K2 is found in eggs, butter, cheese.  Vitamin K is involved in maintaining healthy bones by assisting in the transportation of calcium from the blood to the bone.  Without sufficient amounts of vitamin K, calcium can build up on the arterial wall resulting in vascular and cardiovascular problems.  There are also studies that show that vitamin K may also possess cancer fighting abilities.  It is important to maintain adequate levels of vitamin K in your body but Vitamin K deficiencies are fairly uncommon.  Vitamin K becomes more important as people age to maintain vascular health and bone density.
