Individual STD Tests available in Washington, DC:
HIV Blood Test
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), largely infects humans via unprotected sex, used needles, breast milk from nursing mothers and from an infected pregnant woman to her child at birth. Rough estimates from the CDC indicate that 1.2 million people in the United States have the infection with about 25% unaware of the fact that they are infected.
Recent Exposure STD Testing
Even the slightest concern about a possible STD exposure is valid enough reason to seek testing. Recent Exposure STD Testing offers a quick way to detect such exposure, even if the exposure was only 28 days previous. The results of this test will allow you to get on with your life and get the medical attention you may need.
Hepatitis B Blood Test
Commonly spread through sexual contact or sharing contaminated needles among infected people, Hepatitis B is a contagious disease. The disease can cause a mild week long illness or the sufferer may endure a lifelong, far more serious, duration of the illness.
Herpes Simplex Virus (I.II, IgG) Blood Test
Two strains of the herpes simplex virus cause the STD identified as genital herpes. While herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) has traditionally been the cause of oral herpes, a disease inflicting the lips and mouth with "cold sores" and "fever blisters", there have recently been cases where it caused genital herpes, especially amongst sexually active adolescents and young adults. Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) is the more typical strain which causes genital herpes. Herpes simplex virus infections begin through immediate contact with sores and secretions from infected individuals.
Syphilis – Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) Blood Test
Syphilis is a common but treatable infectious disease. Its symptoms are not easily distinguishable from other illness but if it is not treated, it can cause damage to the brain which can lead to death. This disease is most typically spread through sexual intercourse or oral sex. Thankfully, syphilis is treatable with penicillin and other antibiotics.
Hepatitis C Blood Test
Treatable when caught early enough, hepatitis C is a potentially dangerous illness when not detected. It is reported that nearly 200 million people globally suffer from this condition, which is spread through bodily fluid exchange. When it is not treated properly, the disease can ultimately lead to liver failure.
Chlamydia Test
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease that is the most reported bacterial infection in the United States. It does not present any symptoms, so many infected people do not even know they have been exposed until participating in an STD test. Sexually active people increase their risk of contracting chlamydia by having an increased number of sexual partners.
Gonorrhea Test
Gonorrhea is a simple bacteria which lives in the mouth, throat, eyes, anus, reproductive tract, and urethra of its hosts. Many people fail to realize they are infected, as half of all females, and a tenth of all males don't show any of the typical signs of the disease. Left to itself, gonorrhea can cause serious problems for both sexes.
Are you seeking peace of mind about a possible STD? Call our nurses to find out what STD testing services we have available. They will ask questions as they listen to you and learn about your situation. They will help you determine what STD test or combination of tests you should take. After your testing is complete, they are there again for you to explain your test results and counsel you on what treatment options are available.
If you go to a free clinic or local doctor for STD testing, they will put your test results into your permanent medical record. However, if you choose one of our Health Testing Centers, we are able to keep your results private. In fact, we even allow you to use an alias when coming in for testing. The only way anyone will find out about your test results is if you tell them yourself. Another thing about clinics is that they will most likely give you a physical exam as part of your STD testing. We do not require this at our centers. When you go to the lab to take your test, people should not be able to guess the reason for our visit since our labs provide a variety of testing services. We realize that waiting for test results can cause anxiety. Because of this, we provide quick results within two to three days.
