Parvovirus B19 (Fifth Disease)

Parvovirus B19 is the cause of Fifth Disease, a common childhood ailment, also known as cheek syndrome because it leads to a rash on a childs cheeks, arms and legs. The disease is contagious typically spread through respiratory droplets. Pregnant woman need to be concerned with parvovirus B19 because it can cause great harm to an unborn baby. If you are pregnant woman and believe you may have been exposed to someone with the disease should be tested for the parvovirus b19.
