Hormone imbalances can have wide-ranging health consequences, and keeping them in proper balance helps keep the body feeling young. Measuring this combination of hormones provides great insight to potential areas of concern, including male vitality, performance and prostate health. The test kit also includes a complete thyroid assessment.

The following levels are checked with this test kit:

By Saliva:
  • Cortisol (measured four times: morning, noon, evening and night)
By Blood Spot:
  • Estradiol
  • Progesterone
  • Testosterone
  • Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHGB)
  • DHEA-S
  • Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
  • Free triiodothryronine (T3)
  • Free thyroxine (T4)
  • Thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO)
  • Prostate-specific antigen (PSA)
Cortisol

It is important to maintain optimal levels of cortisol, as the hormone affects many different body systems. Cortisol is important to bone health, the circulatory system, metabolism, the immune system and the nervous system.

Estradiol

Also called E2, estradiol is the major estrogen in humans, impacting reproduction, sexual function, bone health, nerves, metabolism and heart health.

Men should keep levels within the normal range to lower osteoporosis and cardiovascular risk and prevent enlargement of the prostate. Men naturally convert testosterone into estradiol, resulting in lower testosterone levels. This becomes a problem as they age and have decreased levels of testosterone. Estradiol levels should be considered during any anti-aging or hormone treatment therapy. Keeping estradiol and other primary hormones balanced is an important part of keeping the body as young as possible, delaying the effects of aging.

Progesterone

Balancing estrogen and progesterone levels is a key component of healthy aging. When progesterone levels dip, men may experience decreased sleep, increased anxiety, imbalanced blood sugar and loss of bone density. When estrogen levels are higher than progesterone levels, men may experience health issues, including weight gain, cancer, osteoporosis and depression. Men with high estrogen levels may have a loss of libido and prostate complications. Monitoring and balancing progesterone and estrogen levels with a progesterone supplementation can help control these health concerns.

Testosterone

This steroid hormone regulates metabolism and plays a role in repairing and regenerating healthy tissues. Testosterone facilitates the development of male secondary sexual characteristics and reproductive tissue, including increased bone and muscle mass and hair growth. Healthy levels of testosterone are needed for general health and well-being, as research has shown the relationship between decreased levels and age-related diseases like osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes and decreased sex drive.

Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG)

SHBG is a glycoprotein that binds to sex hormones estradiol and testosterone, affecting sexual function. When SHBG blood levels are high, the result may be low testosterone.

The SHBG blood test helps to evaluate a persons hormone levels for a deeper look into their sexual health and general well-being. Usually the concern is when testosterone levels are low in men. The SHBG blood test helps pinpoint the cause of a mans decreased sex drive or erectile dysfunction when the results of the total testosterone blood test are inconsistent with symptoms or inconclusive.

DHEA-S

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a steroid hormone produced in the adrenal cortex and secreted primarily by the adrenal glands. The body uses cholesterol to produce DHEA, which the body can then convert into testosterone or estrogen. If DHEA levels are low, the body will not be able to produce adequate estrogen or testosterone. Therefore, it is important to check this hormone in conjunction with estrogen and testosterone to pinpoint the cause of abnormal levels.

Thyroid Hormones

This panel measures the levels of the thyroid hormones TSH, free T3, free T4 and TPO, all of which regulate metabolism: how the body uses energy. The test measures thyroid function, which is necessary because these hormones decrease as we age. Without adequate thyroid hormones, the metabolism will slow more than normal, and men will gain weight and have less muscle.

PSA

The primary purpose of the PSA test is to screen for prostate cancer. High levels may indicate an inflamed or enlarged prostate or the existence of prostate cancer.
