Cobalt is a nutritional element that is important for good health in very small amounts (as part of Vitamin B12). Very rarely a deficiency of cobalt can lead to pernicious anemia, a potentially lethal ailment. Overexposure to cobalt, typically used in manufacturing, can also be lethal.
Cobalt with chromium and titanium are often used in artificial joints.
